But it all began when someone invented THE INTERNET!

In 1998 together with my students of 15-16 years old I started a small school project about collecting educational websites. In some years time and thanks to the support of thousands of teachers, organisations and the government this initiative has become known world wide as one of the most successful OER-networks for K12 education.

I have been presenting KlasCement all over Europe and have been doing consultancy about setting up an Educational Resources Network in/for Norway, Kenya, Palestine, Ecuador.

Via this bottom-up project KlasCement we inspire teachers by making them share their learning resources openly under a Creative Commons license.

In 2002 another peer-to-peer initiative started: ICT-praktijkdag. It has become the most known IT&Education-day in Flanders, Belgium. I organised this day twice a year until 2019, since then once a year for 1000 teachers and IT coordinators, who can choose two hands-on workshops given by colleagues. At this popular event we share our knowledge live!

It’s all about the power of the network! Learn to share, share to learn!

In 2013 – as a teacher of mathematics – I went back to the roots with the Fyxxilab. Here we inspire children from 5 to 99 by letting them experiment with tools to code, with sensors, robotics, 3D printers, laser cutter, … STEAM and Maker Education: the Future for our Youth with XXIst Century Skills.

I left Fyxxi in 2019 and KlasCement in 2021.

In 2019 I launched a new platform to give organisations the opportunity to send GDPR-compatible newsletters to schools and educators: Eduzine. Via this service I inform principals, IT coordinators and teachers about the amazing world of EdTech.  

In 2020 I wanted to open a place for meetings, training and coworking in Gent: ESPAI.GENT. Due to the covid19 crisis it took until September 2021 for this flexible and innovative space to be a place for people to meet and work together, especially around education and technology.

Thanks to the covid19 crisis I was challenged to reinvent the live edition of the ICT-praktijkdag in 2021.
With the ICT-onderwijsmarkt and a brand new ICT-week it seems I managed to create two amazingly successful alternatives 🙂
During the ICT-week 1400 participants have chosen 4000 times for one or more of the 250 online hands-on workshops, given by more than 100 teachers, IT coordinators and principals to exchange good practices and their experience with IT tools and EdTech. At the virtual IT fair we had 50 booths of IT companies, start-ups and publishers.

Since 2019 I’m also EdTech content curator for the Schools Education Technology Transformation Event in Gent, Sett Gent. 

The main goal of Hans De Four (º1972) is to prepare learners for their future via better skilled and more innovative teachers.

He started as a teacher of Mathematics and IT in upper secondary education.

In 1998 Hans De Four founded KlasCement, an open educational resources network. In 2013 it became a service for all schools in Flanders, Belgium, offered by the Ministry of Education. Via the platform 70% of all teachers in K12 share knowledge on a daily basis.
In 2002 Hans De Four started organizing several types of physical and online edtech events for professional development of teachers: a yearly, crowd-sourced BYOD event for 1000 teachers, a webinar series about AI in education, an event on game based learning, …
In 2013 he opened the first educational makerspace in Belgium. Fyxxilab offers STEAM and coding activities for thousands of learners and teachers and inspires other STEAM labs.
His organization goes for Impact, Connecting ed & tech via platforms, events, newsletters, experienced speakers.
